Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
